Firework Cupcake Toppers

Today I am trying out a few products I ordered on Amazon, such as firework cupcake toppers. My idea is a dark cupcake with a bright, golden firework topper.

Making the Cupcakes

I am using Betty Crocker Delights Triple Chocolate Fudge cake mix, to make a simple chocolate cupcake as my base. I like to add some chocolate chips to make my cupcakes even chocolatier.

For my cupcake wrappers, I went with Gold Foil Baking Cups by WIlton. These came in a 24 pack, so they are perfect for a single batch of boxed cupcakes. They are wrapped well and even included a plastic insert so the wrapper don’t get warped during shipping. The wrapper is thick and sturdy and hold up very well. I will definitely be using these cupcake wrappers again!

The cupcakes came out of the oven nicely, so it’s time to start frosting them! I’m using Duncan Hines Whipped Frosting in chocolate. This frosting was quick thick, and a bit hard to spread. But it did taste very good when I sampled it! I even added some gold metallic sprinkles to a couple of my cupcakes.

Now, I wanted to try some edible glitter spray to try and add extra sparkle. This stuff was very messy and did not spray evenly, but it did make the cupcake sparkle. It takes a bit of practice to get used to using it.

Adding Firework Cupcake Toppers

Now it’s time to try out the firework cupcake toppers I ordered.

The first one I tried were Gold Firework Toppers by ZeriLion. These toppers came packaged in a nice box, and individually wrapped in sets. I couldn’t get them to spread out like they are in the Amazon listing, mine felt rather squished. They are attached to toothpicks, so they aren’t very reusable.

The next toppers I tried out were these Gold Star Toppers by BOHUIZ. These stars are very cute and have a bit of a puffiness to them. They are plush to the touch. The back of the stars are just a white fabric with a bit of glue to attach them to the toothpick. So it isn’t a very good topper for a 3D display. Again, the toothpick and fabric make it hard to clean and reuse. Overall, I think they are quite cute. The come in a variety of lengths, so bear that in mind when designing your cupcake display.

Both toppers really worked well together and I do like how my cupcake display turned out. The cupcakes themselves tasted very good. The extra chocolate chips in the batter really help.
